Preparing for a Garage Project

There are a few things a customer should do before that contact a building contractor. Building a garage is a wonderful process.  The building site or area in which you want your garage needs to be evaluated for several criteria.  Does the area have slope concerns?  Slope simply means that the ground isn't level.  Most builders compensate for that by raising the slab, i.e. making a floating slab.  That means concrete block, or CMU's are used to create a level building surface.  In some cases, building with block is a good idea simply to raise the slab height to protect your belongings from water damage.  Sometimes block foundations are used to increase the wall height without increasing the size of the stud height.  Have your builder evaluate the area and explain the solutions available.

Another consideration is local zoning regulations for building a garage.  In some principalities, you cannot build a structure of any kind that is higher than the ridge of your home.  In some principalities, there is an impervious surface requirement that protects your property and controls drainage issues.
